Our Impact

A classroom in session at Deri Primary School
In Kenya, secondary school is not free. Approximately, 50% of students are not in school, since books, uniforms, boarding fees, travel, lunch etc. are very expensive for poor families thus cannot provide for. The JUHUDI sponsorship programme falls into three categories primary, secondary, third/college levels. To sponsor a child today, you simply need to click on the Click here to Donate and email us and we will then advise you on the next step. You will be able to choose which way you would like to assist. Just a little and you change a lot long term when you make a contribution for instance. You can also help our project and you can be assured that children will thus receive a valuable education in the future. To help us realize that goal, we invite corporations, foundations, and individuals to work with us.

Classroom in session
Juhudi School Support Programme involves providing desks, textbooks, pencils and other valuable resources for local schools. We believe that these basic resources play a key role in a child’s educational progress. We build and repair old dilapidated toilets to improve the poor sanitation facilities in this school. We build and renovate classroom equipment and re-furbishing classrooms to enhance the learning environment. We supply computers in secondary schools, where they do computer studies without any computers

Classroom structure
Developments do not come to this marginalized area of Kwale County. The people in this area area poor and and the primary school dropout rate is very high. Cases of teenage pregnancies are rampant and the transition rate to high school is very low. Deri Primary School was chosen easily for these reasons. The school that started in year 2008, at one time had a population of 600 students, which has since dropped to 250 students currently.

Dilapidated structure at Deri Primary School
Juhudi Africa decided the way back in mid 2018, to remedy this situation. The organization decided to build 4 modal classrooms with adjoining offices. Also due to open defecation, we decided to build 2-six door pitlatrines for use by the students. The whole project is projected to cost 150, 000 USD.

Children outside their dilapidated classroom
Juhudi members contributed 20,000 USD to start off the work. The parents and members of the community also contributed in-kind to start off the project. This project has been envisaged to be ready by the mid of 2019.

Children queuing up to use makeshift toilets at Deri Primary
Poor sanitary conditions lead to high drop out rate of adolescent girls especially during menstruation period. The sharing of toilets for boys and girls also leads to teenage pregnancies, spread of HIV AIDS and other sexual transmitted diseases (STD). Open defecation also leads to water borne diseases like ring worms.

Installation of a 5,000 litre borehole water collection plastic tank is at an advanced stage and purchase of desks will be done to enable the school to start operating in the second budget of phase two of the project.
