Goat Project Launch in Kisii County Within the next month, Kisii County will play host to the launch of the Widows and Widowers Galla Goat Project an innovative program targeting 135 self-help groups. The initiative will see each group receive six Galla goats, chosen for their high milk yield and resilience, creating a revolving model where goats are bred, shared, and multiplied until all members benefit.
The project is expected to deliver multiple socio-economic benefits to participating households and the wider community. First, it will boost household incomes, as goat milk retailing at approximately Ksh 200 per liter in Kenyan towns provides an immediate and reliable source of cash flow. In addition, families will enjoy improved nutrition through direct access to fresh milk and meat, enhancing their daily diets. The initiative also emphasizes value addition, with plans to produce yoghurt, cheese, milk juices, and goat sausages, thereby increasing profit margins and market competitiveness. Furthermore, the project will create employment opportunities by engaging veterinary officers, processors, and marketers at every stage of the value chain.
